Welcome to TWIST Web Site!!!!
TWIST (Tourism Wide Infrastructure supported by Satellite Technology)
is an EC co-funded project answering to the 2nd GJU (GALILEO Joint Undertaking) Call, in
the 6th Framework Programme of the European Commission; it has been started on September 16th 2005
and will last 12 months.
TWIST will develop innovative applications and services based on EGNOS
signal integrated with other emerging technologies like:
mobile computing, Intelligent Agents, WEB Services and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification).
TWIST will be focused on the Tourist sector to provide the Tourist with a set of services
that will prove the benefits brought by EGNOS and GALILEO. GNSS signals will be
used together with innovative software technologies, such as the Personal Intelligent
Agents, and the latest generation of user Terminals, such as PDAs and Smart Phones.
The service provision will rely on a software infrastructure, specifically designed for
secure info-mobility applications, in which a Service Control Centre and a Web Portal,
integrated with Content Providers will provide on-demand and located contents to mobile
Users Terminals for Tourists. The overall goal of the TWIST project is therefore to step
forward innovative Personal Info Mobility applications based on positioning and
communication technologies supported by virtual agents and, through new concepts of
services provision, will allow the distribution of geo-referenced, multimedia, interactive,
personalized, heterogeneous and integrated information, that will reach the tourists along
their Regional or City journey, taking into account their actual location, their needs
and their specific profiles.

- Concepts and results from previous EC and National projects (i.e MToGuide, AGAMENNON, AMBIESENSE, PALIO, INStANTOlympic and SeaNext)
- User Needs coming from a significant actor of the relevant user community (the Italian Regione Toscana Municipality)
TWIST will be based on the technological and applicative experience of its Partners in
EC projects and other research & development activities, also rewarded with International
Prizes, and from their experience in the Tourist market that is expected to grow
significantly in the coming year and changing from a pure seeing/wondering behavior
to a learning one.
In date 15/12/2006 TWIST Project Demo was held in Florence: see TWIST Project Demo page for details.
The TWIST project is managed by the Galileo Joint Undertaking through EU 6FP funds
